Common questions
How accurate are the nutrition estimates?
They're estimates. Munch uses an AI model to recognise food and research typical nutrition values, and portion sizes from a photo are hard to judge exactly. Answering Munch's follow-up questions, or correcting a meal, makes the estimate better. Don't rely on Munch for allergy safety or medical decisions.
Why is Munch asking me questions about my meal?
When something affects the estimate a lot (for example the portion, a brand, or whether something was fried), Munch asks. You can answer, tap "Not sure", or skip; the meal is logged either way.
My meal is stuck processing
Meals are processed on our servers, so Munch needs an internet connection. If you took a photo while offline, Munch keeps it and retries the upload when you're back online. If a meal stays stuck for more than a few minutes, close and reopen the app. If it still doesn't finish, email us.
Can I log a meal without a photo?
Yes. Type a short description of what you had instead.
How do I save a meal I eat often?
Save it as a common meal, then log it again in one tap next time. Common meals are logged instantly without being analysed again.
What do my goals do?
You can write up to three goals in your own words, such as "lower my cholesterol" or "I'm allergic to peanuts". Munch uses them to decide which nutrients to highlight and to shape your insights and meal analysis. Goals are optional, and you can edit or delete them at any time.
Where do insights come from?
Munch searches the web for published research about the nutrients that matter to you and compares it with what your meals show. Each note links to its sources so you can read them yourself. The searches use nutrient and food terms, never your name or contact details. Insights are information, not medical advice.
What is the common object?
An everyday object, like a driver's license, gift card or anything similar in size to a credit card, that helps Munch judge portion sizes. Set its size once in Profile → Common object: pick a preset, type the size, or photograph it beside a ruler and let Munch measure it (that photo isn't kept). When the object is visible in a meal photo, Munch uses it as a scale. It's optional.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are handled by the App Store or Google Play. In Munch, go to Profile → Subscription, or open your App Store or Google Play subscription settings directly. Cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends to avoid being charged for the next one. Deleting the app or your account doesn't cancel the subscription. For refunds, contact Apple or Google; they handle refunds under their own policies.
Who can see my meals?
Only you. Munch doesn't share your meals with other users.
I'm not getting notifications
Check that notifications are allowed for Munch in your phone's settings. You can also turn them off there at any time.
Why does Munch ask for camera access? What about the microphone?
The camera is used to photograph meals and, if you choose, your common object. Munch never records audio. On iPhone, the system requires the camera library to describe microphone use, but Munch doesn't use the microphone. Munch doesn't ask for your location or contacts.
I use Flex too. Is it the same account?
Yes. Munch and Flex share one sign-in. Deleting your account deletes your data in both apps.
How do I get a copy of my data, or correct it?
You can edit meals, goals and your common object directly in the app. For a copy of your data, email us from the address on your account. See the Privacy Policy for all your rights.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile → Delete account. If you no longer have the app, see Delete your account.
